Distracted in School and Didn't Learn

Updated: Apr 9

I saw this photo of a kid with a dunce cap on. It reminded me of when I used to get in trouble for being distracted in school (First Grade). I was bored and couldn't be bothered to learn or pay attention to the teacher.

Distracted in School - Punishment History

A Dunce Cap or Dunce Hat was a tall pointy hat which children were made to wear in Europe and America to discipline them for either disrupting the class or were considered slow in learning. They were phased out by the 1950s. 🔺

How CRAZY is that?! Punishing children for being disruptive or for not being very good learners is NOT identifying the real source of the problem. Children aren't stupid and shouldn't be punished for being slow. Different people have different ways of learning. Also children who "act up" usually have common denominators for doing so. 😧

The picture did remind me of how my First Grade teacher used to stand me in the corner for talking too much. If only my mother knew what I know now, as an adult. The funny part is, it never bothered me. I just entertained the class from the corner instead of my seat and then was sent to the principle's office. 😆

Now, that I know what I know, here were my "reasons" for disruptive behavior and not understanding what the teacher was talking about: 1) I was bored-not interested and

2) I was antsy and distracted by others. 🤡

But these weren't even the REAL reason(s). I learned VITAL data to improving my study habits and ability to learn in courses I took much later in life, as an adult. Here is a link to a FREE DOWNLOADABLE short guide giving a summary of those reasons and the solutions. There are more advanced courses which really help a student learn and if you are interested, you can contact me directly and I will help you find a location near you that offers them. 🗺️

Were you one of those kids who got in trouble for talking too much? Let me know. I can't be the only one! 😝
